Who We Are
Established in August 2002, Myanmar Maritime University is one of the premier universities in Myanmar, providing Maritime Education and Disciplines. We are located in Thanlyin (Outskirts of Yangon), Myanmar.
We offer various programs including Bachelor’s Degree Programs, Post-Graduate Diplomas and Graduate Degree Programs in Various Marine and Naval Disciplines.
Our University is one of the most selective universities in Myanmar. Admissions are based primarily on the marks received in Matriculation Examination. We maintain a 20% quota for female students for every annual intake and all students should pass medical and eyesight examinations. As the employment chances for our graduates are high, admission to the university can be highly competitive. In 2005, necessary minimum entrance examination score was 443. Despite increasing admissions, the entrance minimum examination score rose to 458, 473 and 491 in 2006, 2008 and 2010 respectively, due to high demands and job security.
We offer 6 Engineering Bachelor’s degree programs together with 1 Science Bachelor’s degree program and Post-Graduate Diplomas. Onward 2012, due to changes in government’s policies, Engineering Bachelor’s Program periods are extended to 6 years and Science Bachelor’s Program is extended to 5 years, previously 5 and 4 respectively. Our university pursues Maritime Education in accordance with the international STCW-95 Standards. University’s syllabus, coursework and practical training are in keeping with STCW-95, developed by the International Maritime Organization which sets qualifications and training standards for personnel serving aboard seagoing merchant ships. We offer various Maritime and Naval Disciplines including Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Port and Harbour Engineering, River and Coastal Engineering, Marine Electrical Systems and Electronics and last but not least Marine Mechanical. Our university also offers post-graduate diplomas in shipping management, port management and transport and logistics managements.
